Dear Friends,

We wanted to share with you the incredible reviews for Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson at the Public, which have made it the best-reviewed show in Les Freres history.

We hope you're able to make it to the show!
Thanks,

BLOODY BLOODY ANDREW JACKSON: THE CONCERT VERSION

“Bloody entertaining!”
–New York Daily News

“Giddy with intelligence… a smart, vulgar, comic-book romp through history.“
–The New Yorker

“Delightful… Poised between deadpan wonder and frat-house humor.
Bloody may be a hoot, but it’s also a primal holler.”
–New York Times

“The most fun I've had at a play this year!”
-Curtain Up

“A silly-smart entertainment that feels like a fifth-grade pageant hatched under the tutelage of The Harvard Lampoon and composed by Spinal Tap.”
–Backstage

“Bloody good! Anarchic joy and cross-cultural mayhem…
Offers a coherent view of the way American politics cranks out leaders who are as charismatic as they are opportunistic.”
-New York Post

“Rough, raucous, and raunchy! A wholly iconoclastic burlesque with emo rock music and humor that goes for the jugular.”
-Bloomberg

“Down at the Public, this hot little show is putting on one hell of a wake for a fallen hero”
-Variety

“Remarkably inventive and often hilarious…
A dizzying post-modern approach to American history.”
–Theatermania

“Librettist-director Timbers is the artistic director of Les Freres Corbusier and Michael Friedman is the house composer of The Civilians, and the uniting of these two downtown titans on a project of this audacity is a match made in theatre utopia. Timbers’s knack for rampantly visionary entertainment and Friedman’s grip on pungent social commentary combine to make something deeper, richer, and hotter than either has previously devised alone, all within a searing context that commands your attention and demands your assent to its absurdities.”

Dear Friends,

All 24 performances of Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson sold out prior to the first show - but it doesn't mean you can't still see it. A large number of rush tickets will be sold every day at the Public Theater, one hour before each performance. Somewhat unbelievably, all tickets are only $10!!!

We couldn’t be more excited about the new writing, the hilarious cast, and the extremely cool design. We hope you can join us as we're incredibly proud of the piece and would love a strong Les Freres presence in the audience!

And some exciting news out West: the newest Les Freres show, joining The Great Depression and Elvis' '68 Comeback Special, will appear in a developmental production at La Jolla Playhouse this September in San Diego. It’s written by Sean Cunningham and Michael Friedman, two of the funniest writers working in theater today. Stay tuned for more information.

Thanks and hope to see you at Andrew Jackson!
Much love,

Dear Friends,

Beginning next week, the Public Theater will host a three-week developmental run of Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, and we couldn’t be more excited about all the new rewrites, the hilarious cast, and the extremely cool design. Information is below and, somewhat unbelievably, all tickets for the entire run are only $10. Half the shows are already sold out.

Just like Dance Dance, Hell House, Heddatron, and Boozy, this one will sell out its entire run prior to the first performance – if you want to come, we’d encourage you to act quickly, as we’d love to have a great Les Freres presence in the audience.

And some exciting news out West: the newest Les Freres show, focused on The Great Depression, will appear in a developmental production at La Jolla Playhouse this September in San Diego. It’s written by Sean Cunningham and Michael Friedman, two of the funniest writers working in theater today. Stay tuned for more information.

Thanks and hope to see you at Andrew Jackson!

This December, Les Freres transforms the Ohio Theater into a fully immersive, bombed-out discothèque as we fuse unmerciful Japanese rave music with deeply regrettable sophomoric comedy in this one-of-a-kind, futuristic dance spectacular, Dance Dance Revolution.

Riffing on fizzy dance-icals like Flashdance and death sport movies such as Rollerball, Dance Dance Revolution is set in an Orwellian society where dance is illegal. A group of local street toughs harbor no hope of overthrowing the fascistic no-fun government - until a mysterious dance prophet named Moonbeam Funk arrives.

Inspired by the wildly-popular video game, Dance Dance Revolution is like Footloose set in the future - but much scarier, and with 50 really attractive, barely-clothed young actors and buckets of free beer.

Running Time: 75 minutes!

Politically charged domestic tragedy is a tricky language to master,
but Levenson speaks it fluently.”

This December, we transform Soho's Ohio Theatre into a fully immersive, bombed-out discotheque as we fuse unmerciful Japanese rave music with deeply regrettable sophomoric comedy in the futuristic dance spectacular, Dance Dance Revolution.

In a futuristic Orwellian society where dancing is illegal, a group of local street toughs harbor no hope of overthrowing the fascist no-fun government—until a mysterious dance prophet named Moonbeam Funk arrives.

Loosely based on the wildly-popular video game, Dance Dance Revolution is like Footloose set in the future—but kind of scarier, and with 40 really attractive, barely-clothed young actors and buckets of free beer.

You know there’s gonna be some dance-fightin’…

<fieldset>

See Les Freres at Joe's Pub!

Photo by Craig Schwartz

In honor of the agita-inducing upcoming election, a concert reading of Les Freres' new musical Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson will be presented on Monday, October 13th at 9.00pm at Joe's Pub. Jackson is a fast-paced, irreverent Wild West rock spectacular about the founding of the Democratic Party. It's got populism, emo rock, and lots of dead Indians.

Come celebrate Obama and McCain in '08 with the story of America’s first populist maverick.

Tickets can be purchased here

</fieldset>

Live Robots in LA!

Center Theatre Group, LA's premiere theater company, has once again shown the exceptional good taste to bring the Les Freres aesthetic out West. This coming June (as in '09), they will produce the West Coast Premiere of the LFC chestnut, Heddatron, by the whip-smart Liz Meriwether.

This insane show pits six live, hulking, near-sentient robots against Ibsen, Strindberg, and a surprisingly-heartbreaking modern-day Hedda Gabler story.

Ben Brantley of The New York Times called Heddatron:

"Strangely moving... Magical… The wild side of theater where audiences' hearts are mended by the ritualistic breaking of them on stage... Achieves true, and truly original, theatrical transcendence..."

Tickets can be purchased here

<fieldset>

Two more on the horizon!

You won't have to wait two more years for the next Les Freres show. In addition to the triumphant New York debut of Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson in 2009, two very unique projects are being actively developed, one about America’s most incompetent mayors and another on Herbert Hoover and the Great Depression.

Both mix Les Freres’ ruthless desecration of America’s greatest historical icons, its ill-advised obsession with puerile humor, its more well-advised cultivation of cutting-edge live music, and a feverish inundation of academic esoterica—topped off with two cutting-edge conceptual takes sure to terrify the representatives at Actor's Equity.

</fieldset>

We love you. And we love that you love accessible experimental theater.

Our regards,

Alex and Andrew

<fieldset>

A wildly exhilarating theatrical ride! The historical tomfoolery of a zany Monty Python spoof while conjuring an edgy seriocomic irony that recalls Stephen Sondheim’s Assassins. It forges its own blazingly original artistic identity, pulsating with wit, melody, energy, and dazzling theatricality.
-Backstage West

</fieldset>

Dear Friends,

We're thrilled to announce that the Center Theatre Group premiere of Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson is now running in Los Angeles! Originally developed by Les Freres Corbusier and at Williamstown Theatre Festival, the show is now a co-production between CTG and New York's Public Theater.

<fieldset>

Vibrant and refreshing, giving a much-needed facelift to musical theater… Revolutionary… The primal scream of musical theater's next generation.
-Broadway World

An explosive, soot-black comedy! A wild ride that will have audiences laughing until they cry, and then crying for shame of laughing.
-Theatermania

</fieldset>

Shootouts, smallpox and scalpings—growing up on the American Frontier was killer! Hoping to kick some British butt and bitch-slap the Spaniards, thirteen-year-old Andrew Jackson joins the Army and grows up to become America's first populist president and greatest rock star since George Washington.

A fast-paced irreverent rock musical about the country we live in and the leaders we choose. Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson redefines America's seventh president, a pioneer of humble stock who invented the Democratic Party, moved Indians west, and played a kick-ass guitar.

<fieldset>

Goofy, daring… The product of sensibilities shaped by the topical ironies of Jon Stewart and the profane zaniness of "South Park"... Imagine Avenue Q with a master’s degree in American history. Or Brecht for people who secretly find him a bore.

-Los Angeles Times

A bloody good time! Provocative and thoughtful theater... Multi-layered – a scattershot mélange of styles and tones that reexamines the Jackson myth with surprisingly sober intelligence.
-Orange County Register

Pick of the Week! Campy and politically snide... "Revisionist history" doesn't even begin to describe this wild and wicked take on the life and times of the seventh president. The acrobatic ensemble, like everything else under Timbers' manic direction, runs with the timing of a giant pinball game.
-LA Weekly

</fieldset>

Dear Friends of Les Freres,

We’re thrilled to announce that Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson will have its world premiere this coming season at Center Theatre Group's Kirk Douglas Theater in Los Angeles.

Jackson is a fast-paced, irreverent Wild West rock musical about the founding of the Democratic Party. It's got populism, emo rock, and lots of dead Indians. It's also really funny. Music can be heard online at www.myspace.com/bloodybloodyandrewjackson

The show had a successful workshop this past Summer at Williamstown Theatre Festival and will be workshopped further this May in New York by Center Theatre Group. It will premiere in LA January-February '08, prior to a New York run later that year.

Below we're also proud to extend exclusive discount offers to Les Freres list members for two other very funny shows staged, designed, and performed by company vets. Dixie's Tupperware Party begins previews at Ars Nova on Wednesday and Gutenberg! The Musical! (just nominated for a Lortel for Best Musical!) continues to perform through the Spring.

Check them out- they’re both smart and fun. Just like you.

Thanks,
Aaron and Alex

JUST $15 for LES FRERES CORBUSIER LIST MEMBERS to all preview performances (April 18th through May 9th). Use Code: LFC

Other Les Freres folks involved: Writer Liz Meriwether (Heddatron, Boozy, President Harding is a Rock Star), Set Designer Cameron Anderson (Heddatron), Video Designer Jake Pinholster (Heddatron, Boozy), Composer Sam Forman (Hell House, Heddatron) Stage Manager Alaina Taylor (…Scientology Pageant, Hell House, Heddatron), and performer Julie Lake (Hell House, Heddatron)

GUTENBERG! THE MUSICAL! has left its audiences "Howling with Laughter," (AP) since it opened off-Broadway in November - now it's been nominated for the 2007 Lortel OUTSTANDING MUSICAL Award.

To celebrate this and its recent extension, we've got a fabulous half price offer, with best seats from JUST $17.50 for LES FRERES CORBUSIER LIST MEMBERS, but it's only valid through April 29, so book soon.

GUTENBERG is about two men who think they've written the Greatest Musical in History - it's awfully good (and hilariously bad). Directed by Obie Award-winner and Les Freres Corbusier Artistic Director Alex Timbers and written by UCB Artistic Director Anthony King and Entertainment Weekly Hot List scribe Scott Brown - GUTENBERG runs Tuesdays through Sundays at The Actors' Playhouse (7th Ave & Bleeker)
